A lot of people are trying to get some exposure to it by investing in the ADRs thinking they’d have “some benefit” from DeepSeek’s tech. Due to restrictions, there is no other way to get a position in a Chinese private AI company I guess.

Grace, thanks for your comment. I know several Chinese funds syndicate investments into their LLM portfolio companies via Cayman or Bermuda SPVs, so it's possible.

Yes, direct investments are pretty hard these days, investors would need to establish an RMB-based infrastructure, it's quite costly, but theoretically possible.

Or if you are Temasek or Saudi Aramco, you can invest directly. Not sure about LLM space though, Prosperity7 invested in Zhipu AI, but I think they an RMB fund.

Other than LLM, Aramco Ventures invested in Chinese Haide Hydrogen in December last year.

Hydrogen is also pretty sensitive, but probably not as sensitive as LLM.
